Pranab Da's Surgical Strike on Fibrals

The speeches of RSS Mohan Bhagwat and Pranab Mukherjee at the #RSSTritiyaVarsh valedictory ceremony at Nagpur was nothing short of a surgical strike on the fibrals, Congress and the opposition of India.

Both of them said the same thing, one in Hindi and the other in English. Both laid to rest the debate on 3 key issues

1) Saving Democracy - One plank on which all anti Modi political parties are coming to together is the plank of saving democracy. Fibrals ( i.e. fake liberals) have been taught that nationalism equals fascism and fascism means the end of democracy. It is to fight nationalism and save democracy that anti-Modi forces are uniting to defeat him in 2019.

Pranab da said that "Nationalism flows from our constitution". Nationalism thus becomes the reason for enduring democracy. By crediting nationalism for our democracy, Pranab da has defanged the entire anti-Modi front which had come together to fight nationalism.

2) Intolerance - Not one member of the RSS protested when a life long Congressman was invited to preside over one the most important functions of the RSS. Fibrals on the other hand spewed venom on Pranab da for accepting an invitation. In days leading up to the function and even on the day of the function, there was nothing but hate for Pranab da.

RSS came across as a mature and a truly liberal organisation which is comfortable inviting anyone who is not their own and giving him the platform to speak his mind. It became very clear on national TV to judge on who was really tolerant and who was not.

In one move, RSS has laid to rest the premise that Hindutva is Intolerant.

3) History & Role of RSS -  If there is one issue on which the Left Wing and Nationalists differ the most is History. The Left Wing believes that Indian culture needs to be cleansed and replaced by an idea imported from outside India. The Nationalists believe that Indian culture is the soul of our nation and can be enriched by new learnings from outside.

Pranab da's long history lesson sent one clear message - he agreed with the view of the Nationalist son our history and the role culture plays in shaping our civilisation. Pranab da also acknowledged the role played RSS founder Dr Hegdewar by calling him ' a great son of India'.

Finally Pranab da made a significant contribution towards the #CongMuktBharat campaign. With his engagement with the RSS, he sent a message to every Congressman - this politics of hate needs to end. Its time we stop shaming people for their culture, its time we stop diving India on caste, its time we stop vote bank appeasement politics. It time we acknowledge our history, culture and engage with every Indian.

Pranab da spoke like a Swayamsevak and a Lokmanya Tilak or Sardar Patel would be very proud of him. He gave a clarion call to every Congressman to go back to their roots. He chose RSS as a platform for he would never be allowed to speak freely from a Congress platform.

It was a masterstroke by RSS to invite Pranad da. Every Indian got to see on national TV, vision of RSS.

Pranab da too leveraged to forum to give a call for New Congress i.e. the one which identifies more with Tilak than the current Gandhi family.

  1. I agree with your assessment. It was a right time to for the engagement, more such prominent people should express openly their views. The left has made nationalism a stigma. Such is the case with many people, they want to be global before they can be even local!

Manohar - One who could win hearts and minds

They say that it is easy to defeat anyone, winning people over is the most difficult thing to do. Manohar Parrikar true to his name dedicated his life to winning people over. My first interaction with Manohar Parikkar was 5 years ago. Elections had been announced and Manohar Parikkar was asked to address IT professionals living in and around Outer Ring Road in Bangalore. New Horizon College was the venue. On that lazy Sunday, I managed to show up at the venue 15 before time. Politicians are known to arrive late but Manohar Parrikar was already there mingling with the IT crowd. He speech consisted of 2-3 stories with foksy humor and wisdom. He wanted the IT crowd to engage in politics, to participate in nation building, I still remember his story "Once upon a time, Goa was known for the best watermelons. Every year post the harvest season, farmers in every village would invite people to taste the best watermelons for free. There was only one condition, they had to spit ou...

Mahaghatbandhan Meltdown

Over the last 9 months, regional leaders had worked very hard to build an anti-Modi front. They did not contest seats, swallowed pride and also shared a platform with the very parties against whom they had contested all their lives. These regional parties did all this with only one hope - survival. They believed that if they all came together, they could put up a credible fight against Modi in 2019. It would be painful for each one of them to concede seats but at least survival was possible. The Mahaghatbandhan strategy was put to test during the bypolls. Vote banks were combined; lifelong enemies (BSP-SP) came together and the BJP was defeated in the bypolls. Mahaghatbahndhan despite its inherent contradictions seemed to work. Desperation was the binding glue. NDA, on the other hand, seemed to lose friends. The Shiv Sena remains miffed as it is relegated to a supporting role, TDP walked out as it was unable to take on YSR at the local level. On top of this, media build a ...
