Divide India, Defeat Modi

Two forces are at play in India - Making India and Breaking India.  As these 2 forces take each other head-on, tensions are natural to rise. As one force gets stronger, the other gets more and more frustrated.

Let's analyze these forces...

Making India - The purpose of politics is not power but to bring about social and economic changes in a peaceful manner. Ever since the Narendra Modi government has taken the oath, there has been a relentless focus to bring about social and economic changes.

Swach Bharat focusses making India clean and healthy. Jan Dhan brings aims to bring about financial inclusion. Pension and Insurance schemes aim to provide financial security to every citizen. Digital India aims to make governance transparent, accountable and accessible to all. Make in India aims to change the fundamentals of our economy by making manufacturing as important as services and agriculture.

Making India is about laying a foundation of a strong nation. It is neither populist or easy, In fact, all of the initiatives will only pay off in the long term.

If the Making India forces win, the country will come together to give Narendra Modi another term.

Seeing the inevitable danger of losing 2019, a momentum is being built... let's analyze this force of Breaking India

1) Dividing Hindus - The first component of Breaking India is dividing Hindus. With 80% of the population still Hindu, its impossible to win an election if even half of the Hindus unite. Amplifying caste divisions remains of the most potent weapons divide. Getting one caste to fight another is one sure way to divide Hindus.

Be it the Hardik Patel issue or the Hyderabad suicide case, caste tensions will be leveraged. Next is to attack culture - make a Hindu feel ashamed of his identity. You will see how any and every cultural practice will be attacked. It will start will terming every Hindu festival as harming the environment or any sport as a symbol of animal cruelty. A culture that worships shakti will be termed anti-women.

2) Polarise Minorities - Scare the minorities to create a vote bank. From church attacks to Dadri, media will be used to create a FUD in the minds of the minorities.

3) Staff all Reforms - From parliament to Nobel laureates like Amartya Sen will be used to staff any and every reform - economic or social. The goal is to distract the government from focussing on core issues.

There is only one goal behind the Breaking India forces - defeat Modi, even if it means that they end up destroying India.  Breaking India forces are well connected and funded.

So who will win this war? If history is anything to go by, dharma always wins.

Narendra Modi needs to add one more 'D' to his 3D model of Democracy, Demand and Demography - the 4th 'D' being dharma.

धर्मो रक्षति रक्षितः

Dharma always protects those that protect Dharma.

Manohar - One who could win hearts and minds

They say that it is easy to defeat anyone, winning people over is the most difficult thing to do. Manohar Parrikar true to his name dedicated his life to winning people over. My first interaction with Manohar Parikkar was 5 years ago. Elections had been announced and Manohar Parikkar was asked to address IT professionals living in and around Outer Ring Road in Bangalore. New Horizon College was the venue. On that lazy Sunday, I managed to show up at the venue 15 before time. Politicians are known to arrive late but Manohar Parrikar was already there mingling with the IT crowd. He speech consisted of 2-3 stories with foksy humor and wisdom. He wanted the IT crowd to engage in politics, to participate in nation building, I still remember his story "Once upon a time, Goa was known for the best watermelons. Every year post the harvest season, farmers in every village would invite people to taste the best watermelons for free. There was only one condition, they had to spit ou...

Mahaghatbandhan Meltdown

Over the last 9 months, regional leaders had worked very hard to build an anti-Modi front. They did not contest seats, swallowed pride and also shared a platform with the very parties against whom they had contested all their lives. These regional parties did all this with only one hope - survival. They believed that if they all came together, they could put up a credible fight against Modi in 2019. It would be painful for each one of them to concede seats but at least survival was possible. The Mahaghatbandhan strategy was put to test during the bypolls. Vote banks were combined; lifelong enemies (BSP-SP) came together and the BJP was defeated in the bypolls. Mahaghatbahndhan despite its inherent contradictions seemed to work. Desperation was the binding glue. NDA, on the other hand, seemed to lose friends. The Shiv Sena remains miffed as it is relegated to a supporting role, TDP walked out as it was unable to take on YSR at the local level. On top of this, media build a ...
