#EkSaalModiSarkar

Ancient Indian rishi's believed that there are 4 levers from which a nation derives its strength from - Knowledge, Trade, Weapons and Land. Any nation that seeks 'world domination' attempts to maximise 2 or more of these 'power levers'

Examples

  • America - Knowledge + Trade + Weapons
  • USSR - Land + Weapons
  • Germany during Hitler era - Land + Weapons
  • Japan - Knowledge + Trade
  • China - Land + Trade
  • India ( pre Mughal invasion) - Knowledge + Trade

As @narendramodi completes his first year, i will judge him on these 4 power levers.

Lets first evaluate how India did on these power levers under Congress rule of 60 odd years and then contrast this with the policy decisions of the @narendramodi government

  1. Knowledge - The goal of the eduction policy of Congress government was to create an army of clerks or government bureaucrats. Hence the only skill needed was 'rote learning'. Within the first year, the @narendramodi government has shifted focus to 'skill development'. This focus on skill development will not only make the young employable but also entrepreneurial.
  2. Trade - Congress believed in centralisation of all funds and trade decisions in a single body called as the Finance Commission. Every village which needed funds or approvals was at the mercy of the central government This created a 'mai baaap' culture where a nation was dependent on a 'benevolent' family. Global trade was restricted with nations which the Nehru-Gandhi family liked such as USSR. Two big policy changes - Funds and Trade decisions are de-centralized with states controlling 68% of all finances. There is a accelerated focus on integrating India with trade globally. Every foreign trip of @narendramodi has a singular focus .. grow trade.
  3. Weapons - Congress governments begged, borrowed or bought weapons. In the 1962 war with China, Nehru went begging across the world for help. Last year the focus has shifted to build with the Make in India initiative.
  4. Land - Despite large tracks of fertile land and a weather that supports cultivation throughput the year, India has been dependent on food imports. Land was locked in agriculture. Acquiring land for job creation, building roads/hospitals/schools was very difficult.  Moreover during the Congress regime we ended loosing land to Pakistan, China and even Sri Lanka. The land acquisition bill of the UPA takes back India back to the 1960s where the Tatas struggled to build a single steel factory in Jamshedpur, The new land bill provides for a fair use of land resources across all sectors while providing a healthy compensation to farmers. In addition innovations in agriculture such as soil health cards, 24x7 electricity will yield more crop per drop for the farmers.
Table below summarises the changes

Swami Vivekananda's vision for India was to be a 'Jagad Guru', with the changes across the 4 power levers, the first year of the @naremdramodi government has put India on a trajectory to realise his vision.

Manohar - One who could win hearts and minds

They say that it is easy to defeat anyone, winning people over is the most difficult thing to do. Manohar Parrikar true to his name dedicated his life to winning people over. My first interaction with Manohar Parikkar was 5 years ago. Elections had been announced and Manohar Parikkar was asked to address IT professionals living in and around Outer Ring Road in Bangalore. New Horizon College was the venue. On that lazy Sunday, I managed to show up at the venue 15 before time. Politicians are known to arrive late but Manohar Parrikar was already there mingling with the IT crowd. He speech consisted of 2-3 stories with foksy humor and wisdom. He wanted the IT crowd to engage in politics, to participate in nation building, I still remember his story "Once upon a time, Goa was known for the best watermelons. Every year post the harvest season, farmers in every village would invite people to taste the best watermelons for free. There was only one condition, they had to spit ou...

Mahaghatbandhan Meltdown

Over the last 9 months, regional leaders had worked very hard to build an anti-Modi front. They did not contest seats, swallowed pride and also shared a platform with the very parties against whom they had contested all their lives. These regional parties did all this with only one hope - survival. They believed that if they all came together, they could put up a credible fight against Modi in 2019. It would be painful for each one of them to concede seats but at least survival was possible. The Mahaghatbandhan strategy was put to test during the bypolls. Vote banks were combined; lifelong enemies (BSP-SP) came together and the BJP was defeated in the bypolls. Mahaghatbahndhan despite its inherent contradictions seemed to work. Desperation was the binding glue. NDA, on the other hand, seemed to lose friends. The Shiv Sena remains miffed as it is relegated to a supporting role, TDP walked out as it was unable to take on YSR at the local level. On top of this, media build a ...
